Sample Letter for Healing Box/Basket  Back to Box List

Dear (friend/colleague, church member, etc),

I am sorry to tell you that (name of woman with cancer) has been diagnosed with cancer.  She will be undergoing chemotherapy (radiation and chemotherapy, radiation, other) starting next week (month, whenever).  Obviously, this is a difficult time for her (and her family).  She has asked me to act as coordinator of help and to give friends and colleagues (church members, etc.) information about her condition and treatment.  You can reach me at (phone number, e-mail address).

Something that has been a support and encouragement to other women undergoing treatment for cancer is receiving a Healing Box (Basket) from people who care about them.  I am organizing a box (basket) for (name).  If you would like to contribute, look at the list posted on the Bulletin Board (in the hallway, near the door, on the table, etc.) and check off the item you will contribute or add another item of your choice.  This will ensure that (name) does not receive duplicate items.  Wrap your gift and enclose a short encouraging note if you wish.  Place your gift in the box (basket) near the church entry (or wherever) by (date).  I will be delivering the box (basket) to (name) that evening (or whenever).  (Name) will unwrap a gift when she feels in need of support or encouragement.

I am also organizing meals to be delivered to (name).  Please contact me at the number (address) above if you would like to provide a meal.  (You may want to organize other activities to support the person and mention them here).

(Name) has asked that you not call or visit her right now.  She is trying to rest and gain strength for the challenges ahead.  She would, however, like to receive notes or e-mail.  If you have questions about (name's) condition or treatment, please contact me.

Thank you for your concern.
